Steps to Purchasing a Siemens Earthsafe Solar Electric System from Palo Alto Hardware

  1. First determine what size solar system fits your needs. The two main factors are how much roof space you have, and what your budget will allow.

  2. Determine if your site is a good solar installation site.
    1. You will need 120 square feet of roof space per 1 Kilowatt
    2. A south facing slope or flat roof (Eichler-type house) are ideal.
    3. Be aware of trees that may throw shadows across the roof. We suggest noting shadow positions in the morning, afternoon, and dusk.

  3. Palo Alto Hardware can visit your home to determine if it is a reasonable solar install site.

  4. Determine how much electricity your home uses (Remember, a 1 KW PV system will produce 2000 KW hours a year).

  5. After making a 5% deposit on the size system you wish to purchase, Palo Alto Hardware will provide you with the Siemens Blueprints and System Specs necessary for applying to your local city planning department for an electrical permit.

  6. Palo Alto Hardware will help you fill out the necessary paperwork for your rebate (CEC 1890c, STD 204, PG&E)

  7. The Homeowner then applies for the electrical building permit. A building permit may take between 10 minutes and 10 days, depending on your City. Be sure to ask how long to expect.

  8. In the meantime, Palo Alto Hardware will order, assemble, wire and deliver the system (Ask a salesperson about delivery restrictions).

  9. Once a building permit is obtained, the Homeowner can contact one of our preferred installers (or begin installing if a self-install)
